Meet Dr. Laura Hummel, DNP, PMHNP-BC—a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Smyrna, Delaware who has been in the mental health game since 1990, the same year Home Alone hit theaters and taught us that sometimes yelling into the void is therapeutic.
With degrees from the University of Delaware, University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama, Laura brings over three decades of clinical mastery, practical wisdom, and a strong dislike for medications that act like drama queens. Her philosophy is simple:
Medication should feel supportive and steady—not chaotic.
If it isn’t working, she wants to know immediately, because mental health care shouldn’t feel like a guessing game.
Laura specializes in ADHD, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, mood disorders, and complex medication management, always aiming for the lowest effective dose with the fewest side effects. She works collaboratively with patients to help them stop suffering silently and start feeling like themselves again.
When she’s not optimizing someone’s treatment plan or dropping a perfectly timed therapeutic insight, Laura is likely:
